A Mobile Science Exhibition unit from Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkota, India, is taking part in the three-day Science Exhibition that kicked off in the Nepali capital Friday.

The Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (RONAST) is organising the exhibition to mark its 22nd anniversary. Nepali schools, individuals and organisations are also taking part in the exhibition that aims to identify and encourage young science talents in the country.

BITM is one of the first museums set up by National Council of Science and Museums, Kolkota,. the Indian embassy in Kathmandu said.

The Exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Indian ambassador, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, and vice-chancellor of RONAST, Dr. Dayamananda. Bajracharya. The Mobile Science unit will be in Kathmandu at the RONAST premises and visiting other schools until December 7, 2004. The MSE unit from India will also be visiting the DAV School, Birgunj from December 8-11, 2004.

The Mobile Science Unit – currently touring Nepal-- has 24 scientific exhibits focusing on Optics, Sound, Electromagnetic Induction, Rolling Balls, Oscillation, and Electronic Puzzles. It also has an inflatable planetarium and a Science Demonstration Unit. The theme of the Mobile Science Unit is “Popular Science”.

The Mobile Science Unit has been an extremely successful project touching the innate curiosity of youngsters to the wonders of science and tapping their potential.

As part of the bilateral programme of Scientific and Economic Cooperation between India and Nepal, the visit of this Exhibition Unit manifests the close understanding between two friendly neighbours in bringing the wonders of science from India to the young people of Nepal, the embassy said.

Thousands of students from various schools in the capital visited the exhibition Friday. RONAST officials said that they were encouraged by the tremendous response to the exhibition especially from the youths and students.nepalnews.com by Dec 03 04
