| Kathmandu DAO issues prohibitory order
District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has prohibited-effective from today-the holding of public gatherings, meetings, rallies, sit-ins, strike, gherao or any other kind of protest programmes at different public places and roads in Kathmandu, state-owned Radio Nepal said.
The order has been issued as per the Local Administration Act-2028, to “maintain law and order and security” in the district, the report said quoting the DAO.
The areas where the prohibitory order has been issued include the road section from Maitighar to National Archives office, Singha Durbar, Padmodaya High School, Putalisadak cross-section, Kamladi turn, Krishna Pauroti, Hattisar, Jay Nepal Cinema Hall, to Nagpokhari and other major thoroughfares including Lainchaur, Shaid Gate, RNAC building, Bir Hospital leading to and from the Royal Palace and Singha Durbar.
These are some of the areas where opposition political parties used to hold protest rallies in the past.
Published reports have said that different political parties were preparing to launch joint movement to protest the 1 February royal move and to achieve what they call “absolute democracy” in the country. nepalnews.com amt Apr 30 05
