Encephalitis kills eight in Kailali, dozens infected

Spread of encephalitis has claimed at least eight persons in the far-western district of Kailali recently.

According to the state run Radio Nepal, six and two patients admitted for treatment for the disease in Seti zonal and Tikapur Hospital respectively have died. Over three dozen more have been hospitalized.

The encephalitis, transmitted by mosquitoes, has turned into an epidemic in the area, the report added. Most of the victims of the disease are children and the hospitals in the area are providing free treatment, the radio said. nepalnews.com pd Aug 16 05
