NBL suspends ten employees

Management of the Nepal Bank Ltd (NBL), Nepal’s oldest commercial bank, has suspended ten of its employees charging them of trying to create indiscipline and chaos within the organization.

Three employees were suspended Wednesday while the bank had suspended seven employees earlier on Tuesday.

Nearly six hundred employees belonging to the two-trade unions- NBEU and NFIEU- of the bank have jointly been waging agitation against the management demanding amendment in the new employees' regulation since Sunday.

Earlier, the Nepal Bank Employees Union (NBEU) and Nepal Financial Institutes Employees Union (NFIEU) had issued a joint press statement warning of an indefinite ‘non-cooperation movement’ if the bank management did not agree to sit for dialogues to discuss their demands.

Those suspended employees include NBEU president Dhruba Man Pradhan, general secretary Premal Kumar Khanal and secretary Navaraj Rimal and president of NBEU regional committee Himal Kumar Kapali.

Similarly, the president of NFIEU Semanta Kumar Gauli, general secretary Sudarshan Ghimire and central member of Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) Manju Bhattarai were also suspended from their services.

Meanwhile, employees of the NBL have protested the management's decision to suspend union leaders for carrying out protests Wednesday. They staged a sit-in in front of the bank's head office at New Road, Kathmandu, bringing a halt to all official activities in the bank.

The NBEU and NFIEU have strongly criticized the management for its dictatorship and demanded immediate withdrawal of the actions against the employees. nepalnews.com sg Aug 31 05
