Thousands flock to Janakpur to celebrate Biwaha Panchami

Thousands of Hindu devotees thronged to Janakpur to take part in Biwaha Panchami ceremony, an enactment of wedding of Janaki and Lord Rama, on the day of Sukla Panchami Tuesday.

Devotees from different parts of Nepal and India joined the separate wedding processions taken out, amidst rituals, from Janaki Mandir and Ram Mandir, reports from Janakpur said. Local residents welcomed the processions by offering garlands made of flowers.

The Biwaha Panchami celebrations ended after formal rituals of Rama-Janaki ‘wedding’ at Rangabhumi in the presence of thousands of devotees.

Hundreds of security men and volunteers were deployed for security during the celebrations. The annual Biwaha Panchami is the final day of five-day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Janakpur Industrial Festival is also ongoing. The fair, which features 101 stalls of various goods, will run for a week, according to organisers. nepalnews.com mk Dec 06 05
