12 killed when army man opens fire in Nagarkot: RNA (update)

The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has said that 12 people including one army man were killed at ward number seven of Chihandanda area of Nagarkot on Wednesday evening when an army man indiscriminately opened fire during a local fare.

A press statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of RNA Thursday morning said that 19 people were injured during the incident.

According to DPR, army man Bahudev Thapa killed himself after going on a rampage.

Of the 19 injured, 16 people are undergoing treatment at Shree Birendra Army Hospital Chauni, while three people returned home after general treatment at Teaching hospital Maharajgunj.

Chief of Number 1 brigade of Royal Nepalese Army, Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur district, President of Bhaktpur District Development Committee, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Chief of Suryabinayak Battalion inspected the incident site, the statement added.

An investigation team of RNA headed by a Brigadier General had already started its investigation, the release said.

The statement also added that it will correspond with the government to compensate the families of deceased ones and injured people. nepalnews.com pb Dec 15 05
