All 80 stranded Nepalis safe: Labour Ministry

The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management Tuesday said that all 80 Iraq-bound Nepalis, who have been stranded in Kuwait due to fraudulent manpower agents, are safe.

A statement issued by Ministry said the condition of Nepalis stranded in Kuwait for the last 10 months is good and they have been receiving food and shelter. All of them have expired visas.

The Ministry immediately responded to the news reports of Nepalis facing hard times in Kuwait, asking the Nepali diplomatic missions in the Gulf region to study the case and take necessary steps.

According to reports, 52 of the Nepalis arrived in Kuwait for jobs in Iraq through the Kathmandu-based manpower agency called River Overseas while others reached there through different channels.

Operators of River Overseas were arrested by the police on Monday evening but the government is yet to decide when and how to bring the stranded Nepalis back home.

Hundreds of Nepalis are believed to be working in Iraq despite the ban the government announced after the murder of 12 Nepalis by Iraqi terrorists last year. nepalnews.com mk Dec 20 05
