Government extends deadline of Nagarkot probe committee by 10 days

The government has extended the deadline of the probe committee formed to investigate the Nagarkot massacre by ten more days.

An army man Bashudev Thapa shot dead 12 civilians before killing himself following a minor scuffle with local villagers who were singing, drinking and dancing till late in the evening after a local fair at the Kalika Devi temple at Chihandanda on December 14.

The Home Ministry had formed a three-member high-level probe committee headed by former Supreme Court justice Top Bahadur Singh to investigate the incident on December 15.

Initially, the committee had been given five days to submit its report. The commission, however, started its official investigation only after three days.

On December 17, the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) had extended the time period for its own military probe committee headed by Brigadier General Netra Bahadur Thapa by seven more days. nepalnews.com pb Dec 23 05
