Seven political parties announce programs to boycott municipal polls
Notwithstanding threats from the government not to disrupt the municipal polls, the alliance of seven opposition political parties announced new protest programs to disrupt the municipal polls slated for February 8 next year.
A meeting of the central movement coordination committee of the seven political parties on Monday announced a campaign calling on the party leaders, cadres and well wishers to gather in the municipalities of the districts from January 26 to actively boycott the municipal polls through civil disobedience and non-cooperation.
A press statement issued after the meeting said, the meeting called on activists of the districts, which do not have municipalities, to go to their nearby district’s municipalities to disrupt the polls.
The meeting also urged all to actively participate in all programs to actively boycott the election.
The committee also called the people to gather in Janakpur on January 12 and in Kathmandu on January 20 to take part in the demonstration and mass meetings of the alliance.
Similarly, the alliance has decided to hold nationwide demonstration on January 2 against the killing of 12 innocent civilians by an army man at Nagarkot on December 12. The statement said that the protest rally will start from Basantapur of the capital at 2.00 p.m.
The statement further said the programmes of civic disobedience and non-cooperation will be publicised soon.
Senior members of the incumbent government have warned of stern action against those who try to disrupt the upcoming municipal polls. nepalnews.com pb Dec 26 05
