NHRC seeks king’s audience for peace process
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an audience with His Majesty King Gyanendra to urge him to declare ceasefire.
Speaking during a programme in the capital on Wednesday, NHRC member Sudip Pathak revealed that the commission has already sought audience with the King and is waiting for a response.
Pathak further said the commission has also appealed to Maoists to make public their commitment that they have renounced violence.
Pathak said that Maoists are continuing their activities of murder, abduction and extortion even after the 12-point pact with seven political parties. “The commission has concluded after monitoring truce in 35 districts that Maoist atrocities continued unabated,” he added.
He also called on the Maoists to extend their ceasefire by three months, and respect the reports of both NHRC and OHCHR on human rights violations. nepalnews.com pb Dec 29 05
