Four die of cold wave in west Nepal

Four persons, including three infants, died of cold wave in the camps of the freed Kamaiyas (bonded labourers) in the south-western district of Bardiya.
According to reports, a six-month infant and a 35-year-old adult, from the Dhadhwar camp in the district died on Monday while two infants of the Baniyabhar Kamaiya camp died on Sunday. Over a dozen more children are said to be suffering from cold-borne diseases like pneumonia.

Chairman of the freed Kamaiyas, Asharam Chaudhary said that the infants died due to the lack of money for treatment. “The sick people are usually taken to the hospitals at Guleriya or Nepaljung. But the infants died because their parents had no money for their treatment,” reports quoted Chaudhary as saying. nepalnews.com pd Jan 12 05
