| CIAA asks CAAN to realize dues from the airlines
An anti-corruption watchdog in the country has asked a regulatory body to collect dues worth over Rs 540 million from two dozen airlines without further delay.
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday asked Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to immediately start action to realize the whopping dues from 24 airlines in the country—including those that have closed shops—and report back to it within 15 days.
According to CIAA, some airlines have not paid their dues to the government for using the runway at the Tribhuvan International Airport (as per the government regulation) for the last five years.
According to the state-run Gorkhapatra daily, the airlines that have not paid their dues to the treasury include the state-owned Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation, Necon Air (that remains closed), Shangri-la Air, Gorkha Airlines, Air Ananya, Skyline Airways, Yet Airlines, Karnali Air, Asian Airlines, Buddha Air, Flight Care Aviation, Nepal Airways, Simrik Air, Sita Air, Manang Air, Air Dynasty, Mountain Air, Fishtail Air, Avian Club, Everest Air, Dynasty Aviation, Manakamana Airways and Space Air.
Rajdhani daily has quoted an unnamed official of Buddha Air as claiming that the company had been paying its dues regularly. nepalnews.com by Mar 05 05
