23 Nepali girls rescued from Indian circus
Two non-governmental organisations from Nepal and India have rescued 23 Nepali girls who were working at an Indian circus despite risks.
According to Kantipur daily, Bhairahawa-based `Nepal bal Kalyan Sanstha’ and New Delhi-based ‘Pravasi Nepali Mitra Mancha’ jointly rescued the girls – aged between 15 to 22 years—from Kohinoor circus in the Indian state of Karnataka upon the request of their parents.
Royal Nepalese embassy in New Delhi and Karnataka police also helped in rescuing the girls, the news report said.
The daily quoted chairman of Nepal Bal Kalyan Sanstha, Khem Thapa, as saying that the girls –who are from Makwanpur and Bara districts of Nepal—have been brought to Hetauda via Sunauli border and will be handed over to their guardians.
Earlier, these organisations had also helped in rescuing other Nepali minors who had been forced to work at various Indian circuses. nepalnews.com by May 07 05
