Dolphin found in Narayani river

Dolphin, a rare aquatic mammal in Nepal, has been found in the Narayani River.

The dolphin was found in a pond at the bank of Narayani River at Triveni VDC-5, Bankatti of Nawalparasi, reports quoted Company ‘A’ of Sri Apdiman Battalion of the Royal Nepalese Army based there.

The dolphin, found on Thursday morning, was released into the Narayani river from Triveni VDC-1 Saturday afternoon with the help of employees at the Royal Chitwan National Park, according to Second Lieutenant of the Company Pratap Basnet.

The female dolphin weighed about 70 kilograms and was five feet three inches long.

Although the rare aquatic animal was believed to inhabit in Narayani River of Nepal, it had not been sighted for a long time.

A dolphin, which had been found in Gandak Canal last year, had died in course of rescue. nepalnews.com pb Nov 06 05
