His Majesty King Gyanendra has been conferred with the honorary doctorate degree by the State Technical University of Russia on Thursday.

Prof Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Prikhodko, Rector of The Moscow Automobile and Highway Institute, also known as the State Technical University (MADI), conferred the degree to His Majesty amidst a function at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace today, reports said.

King Gyanendra is the eighth person to be awarded with the degree offered by the Russian University, reports said.

A press statement issued by the Royal Nepalese embassy in Moscow last month said the Russian Institute had also decided to open a research hall in honour of King Gyanendra.

The Institute has also decided to observe the opening day of the hall as “Nepal Day” annually, the embassy said.

During his recent visit to Moscow, Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey visited the Institute and exchanged views with the Dean and senior faculty members of MADI. He lauded the role of the Institute for producing highly qualified Nepali manpower over the years and expressed the confidence for the continuation of cooperation in future, according to the state-run Gorkhapatra daily. nepalnews.com by Nov 10 05
