Government introducing new civil service regulations

The government is introducing Regulations of the Civil Service Act 2049 BS with 45 percent reservation for women, Dalits and Indigenous people in civil service.

According to Ministry of General Administration, the regulation would ensure 20 percent reservation for women and 25 percent for Dalits and Indigenous people.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Saturday, Joint Spokesman of the Ministry of General Administration Bishnu Prasad Lamsal disclosed that the final draft of the Regulations has been completed and has reached the decision-making level.

The government had already amended the Civil Service Act 2049 BS through ordinance.

Lamsal informed that the government is introducing such regulations with the aim of increasing women’s participation in policy-making level.

According to statistics, there are only 2.6 percent women in Gazetted first class and 4.8 percent in Gazetted second class.

Other participants of the programme also stressed on the need to give equal opportunity, trust and responsibilities to women, in order to increase their access as well as attraction toward civil service. nepalnews.com pb Nov 27 05
