Special Court sentences five persons in corruption case

The Special Court on Sunday slapped fines and announced jail terms to five employees including the then executive officer Dhurba Kumar Karki of Birgunj sub-metropolitan City for providing more payments while procuring goods for the office.

Acting upon a corruption cases filed by the Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) last year, the Court found them guilty in the procurement process.

Those convicted persons include store officer Lalbabu Raut, account officer Harikishor Prasad Chaurasia and Prakash Kumar Tibrewala of Nepal Trading House along with Karki.

The payment made to the supplier was 84 percent more than the existing prices of goods procured for the office.

The court slapped four months’ jail term on Karki, Raut and Chaurasia and fined Rs 89,297 and forfeited equal amount from each of them.

Similarly, the court ordered to punish Tibrewala with two-month jail term and exact the said amount from the other accused.

Meanwhile, the court announced fines and punishment to three persons including executive officer Karki in connection to the irregularities committed while procuring carpets and furniture for different ward offices of the sub-metropolitan City.

The Court ordered to fine Rs 25,00 and one-month jail term to the local furniture supplier Rajesh Adikari in connection to the corruption cases filed by the CIAA. nepalnews.com pb Nov 28 05
