As the government is putting various obstacles in protest programmes of political parties, General Secretary of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has said they would ensure that those responsible for obstructing political gatherings and killing innocent people would face trial in the International Criminal Court (ICC), reports said.

He also said political parties have already initiated the process of making those accused of usurping the rights and life of people stand trial at the ICC.

"We have been challenging the government's obstructions to our programs across the country. We will demonstrate with thousands of people in Kathmandu valley," The Kathmandu Post daily quoted Nepal as saying, adding, "If the king's government shoots at any of the participants, the head of the government will have to stand trial at ICC."

The King is holding the chairmanship of the incumbent government through the February 1 royal takeover.

Meanwhile, human rights defender Krishna Pahadi said that people's faith in the institution of monarchy has taken a nosedive after the royal massacre.

He claimed that the monarch would not allow a constituent assembly, which has become the ‘meeting point’ for the parties and the rebels. "So, reconciliation between the king and political parties would be suicidal for the country," he said.

He also added that the image of the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) among the international community is deteriorating due to its support of the king for the February 1 takeover and its subsequent backing of the royal regime. nepalnews.com pb Nov 29 05
