CPN-Maoists has expressed ‘new’ commitment to multiparty democracy and fundamental rights and pointed out the need for peaceful settlement of the conflict.

An executive summary of the plenum meeting publicized by the Maoists on Monday laid emphasis on making alliance with the seven political parties.

A press statement issued by Maoist supremo Prachanda said the meeting decided to make alliance with seven political parties to end the King’s autocracy, forming an interim government and hold election of the constituent assembly to end the political stalemate of the country.

The statement also stated that the meeting reviewed the weaknesses of the party in the past and also adopted a future strategy.

It also said that the party would review the three-month-old unilateral ceasefire and take ‘military’ strategy against the government.

The statement added the plenum meeting reviewed the past activities of the party and adopted strategy for the future. In its future strategy, the party has decided not to repeat past mistakes and improve relations with people. The meeting also decided to strengthen the military strength of the party to seven divisions from three divisions.

The party formed a 33-member convention organising committee headed by Prachanda and dissolved the 95-member central committee.

According to the statement, Laldhowj has been appointed the coordinator and Kanchha Bahadur the secretary to organise a “broader national political conference”.

The seven political parties and the Maoists reached to a 12-point agreement on the basis of the decisions of the meeting. nepalnews.com pb Nov 29 05
