Radio Sagarmatha FM resumes its transmission
Radio Sagarmatha FM – the first community-based radio station in South Asia—resumed its transmission Tuesday afternoon within hours of the Supreme Court verdict to the government not to implement its decision to stop the transmission of the pioneer public radio.
Radio Sagarmatha returned to airwaves nearly 44 hours after the government raided its radio station, seized equipment and took four journalists and a technician into custody Sunday night.
Radio reporter Durga Karki was freed the same evening while the rest of the radio team was freed the following day.
In response to a writ petition filed by Radio Sagarmatha FM challenging the government’s decision, a single bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Badri Kumar Basnet ordered the government not to implement its order until the next hearing due on December 7.
Justice Basnet has also ordered defendants to be present during the hearings on whether an interim order be issued as demanded by the petitioner, Radio Sagarmatha FM
