New initiative to renovate historic Kamal Pokhari
Ministry of Local Development and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started to renovate the historic Kamal Pokhari (pond) which has completely lost its original look due to the lack of proper conservation initiatives.
The pond is completely crammed with mud and garbage with hardly any water and has been looking like a grass field for the last few years.
Earlier, the pond had covered 40 ropanies (1 ropani = 5476 sq ft) of land, but now it is down to 37 ropanies due to the lack of proper attention to preserve the pond and encroachment of buildings and roads around the pond. .
KMC has planed to build a beautiful garden around the pond and a musical fountain in the middle for recreation purposes. The Ministry has proposed to spend 40 million rupees to give new life to the Kamal Pokhari. nepalnews.com rh Oct 26 05
