Hearing on Deuba, Singh deferred
The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would examine the legality of detention of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the then minister for Physical Planning and Works Prakash Man Singh only after the special bench delivers its verdict on the case relating to constitutionality of the controversial Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC).
A five member special bench of the Supreme Court is examining the case related to the constitutionality of the RCCC.
The King formed the RCCC under Article 127 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990 to look after the cases relating to corruption and irregularities after the royal takeover of February 1.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel and Justices Sarada Prasad Shrestha and Top Bahadur Magar issued the order in response to the writ petition filed seeking the release of the two leaders, claiming they are detained illegally.
They were detained by the controversial RCCC in the charge of corruption in Melamchi Drinking Water Project. nepalnews.com pb Oct 28 05
