CPN (Unity Centre-Mashal) on verge of split
The CPN (Unity Centre-Mashal), is in the verge of split after its joint general secretary Prakash formed a separate unit of Progressive Intellectuals' Organization (PIO) in Pyuthan, reports said.
Activists close to Prakash formed the separate PIO after calling a mass meeting on Saturday. This comes after activists close to general secretary Singh formed a similar unit in the district some time back.
This now leaves two similar fronts of the same party, one under the joint general secretary and one under the general secretary.
Following the unification of the party in 2002, the party had recognized All Nepal Intellectuals Organization as its fraternal organization of intellectuals.
The CPN (Unity Centre-Mashal) was formed in 2002 after merging two communist parties CPN (Unity Centre) and CPN (Mashal).
When contacted by Nepalnews leaders refused to comment in the issue or probable split in the party. nepalnews.com pb Oct 30 05
