Court to hear cases against the media ordinance
The Supreme Court on Sunday is to hear a number of cases filed against the new media law.
The court is expected to decide whether to issue an interim order asking the government not to implement the new law as demanded by the petitioners.
Nine professional organizations, including the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), and two lawyers had filed separate petitions challenging the media ordinance issued early this month.
The court is also expected to start hearings on the case filed by Kantipur F. M., a leading private sector radio station, against the government’s act of seizing its equipment around mid-night on October 21.
The authorities said the equipment were seized as the Kantipur F. M. was found violating certain provisions in the new law. The Kantipur F. M. management, however, says its transmission is fully in accordance with the law. nepalnews.com by Oct 30 05
