Chinese commitment to arms aid objectionable: UML gen secy
CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has expressed objection to the recent commitment of the Chinese government to arms assistance to Nepal.
Nepal who is currently on a tour to Indian capital New Delhi to garner support for the ongoing pro-democracy movement of the seven-party alliance, said at a program organised at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University on Saturday, “At a time when the political parties are fighting against autocracy and when attempts are being made to bring the Maoists back to the political mainstream it is a sad news that a socialist country is showing commitment to provide arms assistance.”
“The Chinese assistance is against democracy in Nepal,” Kantipur daily quoted the UML strongman as saying.
The Chinese government during the recent visit of Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) chief Pyar Jung Thapa to Beijing assured to provide military aid worth Rs.7.2 million.
Nepal has seen suspension of arms supply from countries like India, United States and the United Kingdom following the Feb 1 royal takeover.
The US and the UK have already expressed concern over Chinese commitment to arms assistance to the Himalayan Kingdom. nepalnews.com mk Oct 30 05
