Journos continue stir against black ordinance; scores arrested in Dharan

Journalists in different parts of the country continued their protest on Sunday against the recently issued media ordinance which has imposed fresh curbs on independent media.

In the eastern town of Dharan, at least two dozen journalists were arrested when they staged demonstration against the media ordinance this afternoon. Showing banners and placards written in slogans in favour of press freedom, and against the new laws, dozens of journalists based in Dharan and surrounding towns carried out a rally from Chataraline to Bhanuchowk, reports said.

The arrested journalists have been kept at the Ilaka Police Office, reports added. They were not released until 6:30 p.m.

Likewise, in Kathmandu, journalists associated with weekly and fortnightly publications staged a rally this afternoon. The rally attended by dozens of journalists started from Baneshwor to Maitidevi. nepalnews.com mk/by Oct 30 05
