Encephalitis toll reaches 140
At least 140 people have died of Japanese encephalitis and another 874 have been affected by the spread of disease in various western Terai districts in the last few weeks, an official report said.
Most of the deaths have been recorded in Nepalgunj and Kailali. However, the disease has influenced 24 terai districts.
Of the encephalitis cases admitted at hospitals for treatment, 140 patients died in hospitals in Banke, Kailali and Rupendehi districts, among others. Over 200 encephalitis patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Rupandehi, state-run news agency RSS reported. nepalnews.com pd Sep 02 05
