Japanese Encephalitis toll crosses 250
Japanese Encephalitis has claimed at least 250 lives in the Terai region in the past few weeks. Children have been the prime victim of the disease due to lack of awareness and proper medication.
Among the dead, 57 died in course of treatment in various hospitals while most of the deaths occurred in the absence of medical services, reports said. At least 12 deaths were reported this week itself while over 50 patients were admitted to various hospitals.
37 patients have died while undergoing treatment in Seti Zonal Hospital and 20 in Tikapur Hospital, Kailali, reports quoting hospital sources said. Banke, Sarlahi and Rupandehi are other most affected districts where dozens of deaths have occured.
In the last three days, four persons died during treatment in Mahendra Hospital in the mid-western district of Dang, one of the most Japanese Encephalitis-affected districts. 39 Encephalitis patients have been admitted to the hospital till Sunday night, reports added. nepalnews.com mk Sept 05 05
