No word as yet regarding the royal visit
With only four days to go for the proposed visit by His Majesty King Gyanendra to New York to take part in the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Nepali authorities are refraining from making comments on the royal visit.
When contacted by Nepalnews, an official at the Royal Palace Press Secretariat said he did not have any details about the proposed visit. He advised us to contact the Foreign Ministry instead.
A senior Foreign Ministry official told Nepalnews Monday afternoon that he had not heard anything about the royal visit as yet.
Earlier, media reports said King Gyanendra will be leading a Nepali delegation to the special UNGA that is to kick off in New York later this month. The government has already allocated budget for the royal trip.
Reports said His Majesty would be leaving for New
York on a special Royal Nepal Airlines aircraft via Frankfurt on
Friday (September 9). His Majesty would address the special UN session
and meet world leaders during his sojourn.
His Majesty is also expected to give directives to the Royal Nepalese ambassadors in Europe, according to reports.
The royal entourage will return home after two weeks.
A formal announcement to this effect is yet to be made.
This will be His Majesty’s third foreign visit after taking over direct control of the government in February this year.
Their Majesties have already visited Jakarta, Beijing and Doha over the last few months. nepalnews.com by/dr Sep 05 05
