Compensation for deceased Nepali workers demanded
An organization of Nepalis working in Qatar has demanded that compensation be provided to the victims and that Nepalis injured in Saturday's blaze be treated properly.
In a statement issued on Sunday, general secretary of the Qatar Nepalese Unity Society (QNUS), Arjun Thapa, said a team of the Society has already started investigation of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Society further said the government of Qatar has already arrested around five thousand Nepalis and is preparing to deport them on charge of working in Qatar illegally. Those detained include central committee member of the Society, Balaram Gharti Magar. Magar's whereabouts remain unknown. The Society has demanded release of all the Nepali workers detained in Qatar.
The Society has alleged that the Royal Nepalese embassy in Qatar has not been serious towards the problems being faced by Nepali workers. It has urged the embassy to be sensitive towards their problems.
Nepali authorities are yet to comment on the issue of detention of Nepali workers by Qatari authorities. nepalnews.com by Sep 11 05
