SC fiat to govt on UN pact, CIAA chief’s case
The Supreme Court (SC) has sent a seventh letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding it to furnish a copy of the agreement between the government and the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions.
Earlier on August 13, the apex court had set a 15-day deadline to furnish the document. The ministry had failed to meet the SC’s deadline to submit a copy of the agreement of the Royal Nepalese Army’s peacekeeping mission abroad.
“The Ministry has again defied the court’s order. Even after the warning, the Ministry has reiterated that it cannot produce the document,” an official of the Supreme Court said.
The petitioners, who served in UN missions at different times, have accused the government of depriving them of information regarding salary while serving on missions abroad.
In the meantime, the SC on Monday said it would issue its verdict on September 26 on the writ petitions relating to Chief Commissioner of the CIAA Surya Nath Upadhayay. Upadhayay is the former secretary of ministry of Water Resources.
A joint division bench said this while responding to separate writs filed two years ago, by advocate Saroj Sharma seeking action against Upadhayay for alleged corruption while granting permission of the construction works of the Bagmati and Mahakali Irrigation Projects. nepalnews.com pd Sep 13 05
