Their Majesties visit Bara, Parsa and Makwanpur districts

His Majesty King Gyanendra and Her Majesty Queen Komal visited Makwanpur, Bara and Parsa districts, as part of their three-day tour to the Central Development Region.

Thousands of ordinary citizens, administrative and security heads and representatives of local bodies accorded welcome to Their Majesties when they arrived in Pathlaiya, Bara district, this afternoon. During their two-hour stay, the King conserved with local residents to hear about their problems, reports said.

From Pathlaiya, the royal couple headed to the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) Pritana (division) at Suparetar of Makwanpur district, where the King inquired about the security situation in the region.

The King and the Queen then went to Birgunj, Parsa district, by road. Thousands of local residents lined up on the side of the road welcomed the royal couple. Their Majesties also performed puja at the Gahawamai temple.

Giving collective audience to the administrative heads and the chairmen and vice-chairmen of five districts of Narayani Zone, the King directed them to focus on how the wishes of the people for peace and development could be fulfilled.

Reports said His Majesty directed the local body representatives to expedite preparations for the proposed Birganj-Kathmandu-Tatopani electric railway network, which is deemed as the lifeline of the government’s concept to develop Nepal as a transit point between India and China.
