Talks are necessary but they should
lead towards durable peace: King Gyanendra
His Majesty King Gyanendra has said talks (with the Maoists)
are necessary (to resolve the conflict) but that they should lead
towards durable peace.
In an exclusive interview with Sky News, a private sector British
television channel in central town of Hetauda on Friday, King
Gyanendra said he didn’t believe that the solution was use
of force. We believe solution is talks, he said.
“Let me insist that if there is going to be any talks,
it is something which has to have sustainability as well as durability.
We welcome any initiative towards this end,” he added.
Peace at any cost is not the solution either, he said.
The monarch was in Hetauda as part of his on-going unofficial
visit of the central development region.
When asked about the on-going protests launched by the seven
party opposition alliance in Kathmandu, King Gyanendra said he
saw it as a democratic process. “We allow this to happen
because in democracy these things take place. Yes, we would like
to see that we all understand what the motives of the terrorists
are. We should put our heads together, our hands together (to
resolve the problem),” he said.
King Gyanendra further said, “We would like to assure that
there is room for us all constitutional forces-- who believe in
the constitution and who conduct their activities within the parameters
of the constitution. We must put our hands together and solve
problems that we are facing in the country today.” nepalnews.com
