Parties organise nationwide protests, scores arrested
Seven agitating political parties organized pro-democracy demonstrations in several parts of the country on Tuesday during which hundreds of demonstrators were arrested and several others injured.
Reports from Banepa, Kavre district, said at least two dozen protesters including CPN (UML) standing committee member Keshab Badal were arrested when police intervened into the rally when it arrived at Chardobato.
Likewise, arrests were reported during protest rallies in Janakpur, Nepalganj, Mahendranagar.
According to reports, police used force to disrupt the demonstration in Mahandranagar, injuring dozens of protesters.
In Kathmandu, the parties took out a rally from Chhetrapati this afternoon. The rally that converged into a corner meeting at Indra Chowk saw no intervention from the police although there was considerable security presence. nepalnews.com mk/by Sept 27 05
