UML central committee meeting begins

The 12th meeting of the central committee of the CPN (UML) began at the party’s central office, Balkhu, on Saturday, which will finalise the party’s position on a number of issues.

UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal presented the 12-point political report at the start of the meeting. In his 27-page long report, Nepal has expressed discontent over the activities of the government as well as the actions of Maoists, according to an UML source.

Addressing the meeting, Nepal ‘lamented’ the dominance of Nepali Congress in the government and criticized the Maoists for violating the ceasefire code of conduct by continuing their forceful activities. “The Maoist leadership must act seriously to stop unruly activities of its rank and file,” Nepal said.

The UML central committee meeting will finalise the party’s vision for the constituent assembly, the proposed campaign for democratic republic, restructuring of the state and the future court of the party, among others.

Today’s meeting briefly discussed the political report presented by the general secretary. Detailed discussions on Nepal’s report and few other proposals will start from Sunday.

The UML is a major ally in the seven-party government. The central committee meeting will run for four days. nepalnews.com mk Aug 05 06
