Referendum should decide the fate of Monarchy: Bijukchhe

Chief of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party, Narayan Man Bijukchhe, has said that a referendum should be held to decide the fate of monarchy in Nepal.

Addressing a press meet in Rupendehi, Bijukchhe said, “Decision on whether there should be a ceremonial King or a republican set up should be decided by referendum and not by the government and parliament.”

He suspected that the Maoists have also “agreed” to the provision of ceremonial King.

“Parliament should not be dissolved immediately as this will make the government weak,” he said. He added that the country may plunge into a severe crisis if the parliament is dissolved immediately.

Bijukchhe also said there was no need of foreign assistance to solve the country's problems.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference in Bhadrapur of Jhapa district Sunday morning, Maoist chairman Prachanda had said that there will not be any space for a 'ceremonial King' in new Nepal. nepalnews.com pb Aug 14 06
