UML central committee meet passes gen secy’s political report

CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal

The ongoing central committee meeting of the CPN (UML) Tuesday passed the political report presented by general secretary, Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Today’s meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Balkhu passed the general secretary’s political report with some amendments on the basis of suggestions made by the central members, an UML source said.

In his 27-page long report, Nepal has outlined the party’s stand in favour of restructuring of the state, democratic republic, interim government, interim parliament and timely constituent assembly elections, among others. He has also expressed discontent over the performance of the government as well as the actions of the Maoists.

General secretary Nepal had presented the 12-point political report at the start of the meeting on August 5.

Most of the central committee members are taking part in the discussions. During the discussion, majority of the central members criticized the government and the parliament for their sluggish performance and pointed out that the government and the parliament had not been moving as per the people’s aspiration expressed during the pro-democracy movement of the country.

The meeting will continue on Wednesday as well.

In the meantime, reports said that Deputy Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who leads the UML in the government, said at the central committee meeting that the party leaders were not extending support to the government but were indulging in criticizing the performance of the government. nepalnews.com mk/pb Aug 15 06
