TB hospital resumes operation
The country's only hospital for treatment of tuberculosis, the Kalimati Chest Hospital resumed its operation from Thursday.
The hospital had remained closed since the last three years.
The hospital has 25 beds immediately available and will be expanded to 37 beds in near future. Deputy Prime Minster and minister for Health and Population Amik Sherchan inaugurated the reopening of the hospital amidst a function on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sherchan asked the parties to hold the summit talks by end of August and finalise the issue of the constituent assembly.
He also stated the government would not allow the hospital to close down again. Last year, the government had allotted Rs. 900,000 for the hospital. This year, the amount has been increased to Rs. 3 million.
The hospital is run by Nepal Tuberculosis Prevention Organisation, and has three medical officers, one medical director and five nursing staff.
It was established 35 years ago with the objective to provide medical care to complicated tuberculosis patients. nepalnews.com ia Aug 17 06
