Maoists can not be legitimate political force before arms management: PM Koirala
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that recognition of the Community Party of Nepal (Maoist) as a legitimate political party is not possible before they lay down their arms.
Talking to media persons at his residence in Biratnagar Friday morning, Koirala said that the coalition with the Maoists in the government was impossible unless they disarmed.
Koirala also expressed dissatisfaction towards the Maoist stand against disarming before the election to constituent assembly even after the government scrapped the terrorist tag and red corner notice imposed on them. "The government has created conducive environment for them to lay down their arms and establish as a legitimate political party," reports quoted him as saying.
Koirala also reiterated his firm commitment to make the peace process a success saying nobody can put hindrance in the process.
I am in contact with the UN team and have been assured that it will arrive very soon, he added. He informed that he directed the Nepali envoy in the US Friday morning to request the UN team to visit Nepal at the earliest possible to help in the issue of arms management and the peace process.
Prime Minister Koirala is expected to return to the capital this evening after his five-day long stay in his hometown. nepalnews.com ia Aug 18 06
