Two people killed due to incessant rain in Banke

At least two persons were killed and dozens of houses damaged due to incessant rains in Banke and Bardiya district on Saturday night.

According to radio reports, two persons of a family were killed in Banke after a house collapsed following heavy downpour.

According to reports, 22-year old Rabina Mahat and her 2-year old daughter Kriti, of Manikapur village development committee (VDC) were killed in the incident.

More than 40 houses have been inundated in Manikapur. The rains have affected Chhitaipurwa, Santaliya, Kamdi and Betahani VDCs among others.

Police said more than 30 houses were submerged in Bardiya district. Supply of electricity has also been disrupted in Gulariya, the district headquarters, after many electricity poles have fallen down due to the flood.

Traffic at the Nepalgunj-Gulariya section of the Mahendra Highway was halted after the road was flooded.

The local administration and Nepal Red Cross have been conducting rescue work in the area.

This is the heaviest rain in the districts in the last ten years.
