Students continue protests against govt decision on temporary teachers
Students continued protests on Saturday against the decision of the government to given permanent status to all temporary schoolteachers.
Agitating students took to the streets saying the decision ignored the meritorious persons and provided opportunity to 'incompetent' teachers to secure permanent employment. The protesters also demanded that open competition should be held for recruitment of qualified teachers in public schools.
Students took out rallies at Tripureshor, Ratnapart and Sundhara. They chanted slogans against the government decision and demanded that the ongoing examinations for teachers' license be cancelled.
After the student protests, the Teachers Service Commission postponed examinations initially slated for Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, students burnt tires and clashed with police and vandalised a few government vehicles at Maitighar. Police had to use force as the agitating students forcibly tried to enter the prohibited area at Singh Durbar main gate.
In a separate incident, candidates appearing for an exam for teaching license in Nepalgunj vandalised the Banke District Education Office. After the incident, the administration pasted a notice, announcing to cancel the examinations scheduled for 8 in the morning.
Owing to mounting pressure from the temporary teachers who continued demonstrations for a month, the government had two weeks ago decided to give permanent status to all the temporary schoolteachers through internal examinations. nepalnews.com ia Dec 02 06
