Students continue protest against Education Bill

Students in various campuses in the Kathmandu Valley and outside continued their protest against the ‘discriminatory’ Education Bill, on Sunday as well.

In the capital, students of Tribhuvan University, Mahendra Ratna Campus, Sanothimi Campus (Bhaktapur) took out protest rallies and blocked traffic. Vehicular traffic at Ratnapark, Tripureshwor and Kalimati areas remained out of gear for hours due to rallies.

Rallies were still going on in several places around Kathmandu until 3:00 pm, but there were no reports of violence. Similarly protests were reported in Biratnagar, Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj and few places against the Education Bill.

Dozens of protesting students were injured during clashes with the police across the country on Sunday.

Students took to streets from Friday after the parliament approved the controversial Bill, which, protesters claim, deprives qualified aspirants from appearing in free competition for jobs.

As per the Bill, temporary teachers working in public schools prior to April 24, 2006 will get permanent status after internal competitions, irrespective of their age. nepalnews.com mk Dec 03 06
