'A' Division League Football: Police teams move ahead

Veteran Hari Khadka struck twice for Mahendra Police Club (MPC) to beat rookies Sankata Club 2-1 to continue his excellent form in the ongoing San Miguel "A" Division League Football Tournament played at Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu.

MPC skipper Khadka netted two superb goals to earn important victory against the rookies following Tribhuvan Army Club's (TAC). Both have equal 22 points but TAC leapfrogged MPC on better goal difference.

Khadka scored his first goal in the 43rd minute utilising the defensive lapse while he added his second in the 68th minute. The second goal was quite brilliant as Khadka collected the ball off Jumanu Rai and shot brilliantly to sail the ball onto the left corner of the post. Sankata rookies finally cut the deficit in the 85th minute.

Earlier in the day, another departmental team, Armed Police Force (APF), displayed excellent form to overwhelm Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) 4-0. Mani Pundit opened the account through a spot kick when Ashok Sen of RCT pulled down Sunil Subedi inside the box. Prakash Karki doubled the tally just after the lemon break with his solo effort. Speedster Sunil Subedi also got his name in score sheet in the 56th minute while super-sub Ganesh Lawati struck final nails on RCT's coffin scoring the fourth in the 85th minute.

RCT couldn't show any strength to put the cops in pressure but had RCT not been favoured by some luck, the margin would have been even bigger. APF skipper Kumar Thapa hit the pole twice in either half. nepalnews.com bt Dec 04 06
