Japan approves 8 million for food transportation
The government of Japan has approved the utilization of the Counterpart Fund under the Food Aid (KR) of Rs 8 million for transportation of food grains to remote areas.
According to a statement by the Japanese embassy in Kathmandu, the project was approved in order to counter the existing food deficit faced by Nepal, particularly in the remote hilly and mountain districts, as a result of low production.
Under this project, Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) would deliver an additional 2,200 metric tons of rice to 18 remote hilly mountain districts besides NFC's annual program of delivering 7,110 metric tons.
The Counterpart Fund was established through the financial assistance extended by the government of Japan under the Food Aid. The Fund is utilized for implementing various social and economic development projects through consultation between the two governments. nepalnews.com ia Dec 05 06
