CPN (Unity Centre-Masal) to remain underground

One of the senior leaders of the CPN (Unity Centre-Masal) has said that the party will remain underground till restoration of full fledged democracy in the country.

Speaking at an interaction with selected media persons in the capital on Thursday, general secretary of the party Mohan Bikram Singh said that complete democracy is yet to be restored in the country and urged all political forces to go for a republican order.

He however said that the People’s Front Nepal (PFN), fraternal organization of the party would participate in the elections of the constituent assembly. The PFN has three lawmakers in the present parliament.

He also informed that the PFN will not join the interim government, but play effective role in the interim legislature.

The 72-year old communist leader also said that all republican forces should work together to establish democratic republic set up.

Singh has remained underground since 2027 BS after he was released from 10-year long detention.

He accused the CPN (Maoist) and the CPN (UML) of talking about forming a front for a republican order to attract people in their folds, adding, “Their ideas on the formation of a republican front are not clear.”

"The political parties must opt for a republican order during the elections of the constituent assembly," Singh added.

"Some elements within the country and outside are still against holding constituent assembly (CA) elections," he said, calling for early polls.

Commenting on Maoist insurgency, Singh, who was very critical towards Maoists, said the Maoists had decided to wage the decade-long insurgency without thoroughly analysing the situation of the country and termed the Maoists' decision to start the insurgency as an immature one.

"The Maoists had to return to the negotiating table even after waging the decade-long war because the conditions were not conducive to a revolution,” he said.

He also accused Maoist chairman Prachanda of showing loyalty towards India to get power. nepalnews.com pb Dec 08 06
