Students disrupt RPP Nepal’s regional meet in Pokhara

Students affiliated to the seven-party alliance and the Maoists "attacked and disrupted" the concluding ceremony of western regional meeting of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal in Pokhara, Sunday.

According to a RPP Nepal source, a group of students stormed into the concluding ceremony at the Party Palace at Lakeside, Pokhara, this morning.

The students also vandalised the vehicle of party president Rabindra Nath Sharma.

A minor scuffle between RPP Nepal activists and students was also reported earlier. However, nobody was hurt in the incident.

Students chanted slogans against the former royalist ministers present at the meeting after taking the programme venue into control after the incident.

Talking to Nepalnews, party chairman Sharma described the incident as "pre-planned and a result of defeated mentality".

He further said that attack on a meeting of a political party at a time when the country is celebrating the International Human Rights Day, shows the lack of commitment of the political parties towards protection and promotion of human rights.

According to him, his party has already held regional meetings in Biratnagar of eastern development region, Nepalgunj of mid-western region and Mahendranagar of far-western region and will organise regional meeting of central region at the stipulated time despite the attack. nepalnews.com pb Dec 10 06
