Doctors resign en masse at Janakpur zonal hospital
Doctors and all staff at the Janakpur zonal hospital resigned en masse on Sunday, citing failure of the local authorities to provide security to doctors.
According to reports, relatives of patient Dilip Chaudhary recently beat up medical superintendent Pawan Thakur and chief of the lab Dr. Raj Kumar Mahato charging that the hospital came up with false pathology reports on his diabetes test showing high sugar levels.
Relatives of the patient said the lab chief put the patient's life at risk with the false report, while a report received after the test at another lab showed the patient free from diabetes, reports The Kathmandu Post daily.
Following the incident, Chaudhary's relatives had manhandled doctors and vandalized the hospital.
Doctors refused to withdraw their resignation despite a meeting held on the initiative of Chief District Officer Madhav Prasad Regmi and a police officer to resolve the problem.
Many seriously ill patients, undergoing treatment at the hospital pleaded for treatment, but doctors at the hospital were unmoved. nepalnews.com pb Dec 11 06
