Students end blockage on Prithivi Highway
Traffic on the Prithivi Highway resumed in the afternoon as the students protesting the Education Bill ended the blockage after five hours.
Students staged demonstration and burned types on the highway at Gajuri, Dhading district, in the morning, bring the vehicular movement to a halt. Thousands of passengers including ambulances remained stuck along the stretch of the highway as the protest went on.
The protesters finally agreed to call off the blockage at around 1:15 pm, reports said. No violence was reported during the protest.
Students across the country have been protesting against the ‘discriminatory’ Education Bill since last few days. According to them, the bill that gives ‘one chance’ to all temporary schoolteachers to become permanent through internal competition deprives competent aspirants from getting jobs.
