Japan extends Non-Project Grant Aid worth over 668 million
The Government of Japan has extended a grant assistance of NRs. 668,800,000 for the implementation of Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) in Japan’s Fiscal Year 2006.
A press release issued by Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu said the Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tsutomu Hiraoka and Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Vidyadhar Mallik, signed and exchanged the notes to this effect on behalf of their respective Governments.
“The Non-Project Grant Aid will be extended for the purpose of contributing to the efforts of the Government of Nepal for socio-economic development and poverty alleviation, especially that in the rural areas, and also to support its efforts for the consolidation of democracy and the realization of permanent peace in the country,” the statement added.
The Non-Project Grant Aid will come in the form of foreign currency support in order to secure payment of essential imports required for the key development activities, such as development of rural areas and also for peace building and the consolidation of democracy.
Speaking at the programme, Japanese Ambassador Hiraoka expressed his sincere hope that the NPGA will help to strengthen the efforts of the Government of Nepal for peace, democracy and development.
Hiraoka, further expressed his wish that this support will prove to be yet another milestone in strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship that so happily exists between Japan and Nepal. nepalnews.com pb Dec 15 06
