Justices ready to take oath before interim parliament: CJ Poudel
Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel has said that he was ready to take the oath of office and secrecy from the interim parliament as per the provision of the interim constitution.
Talking to journalists before departing for Russia on Monday, the CJ said, "Since law practitioners are always committed to the constitution of the country, if the statute makes such a provision, we will take the oath of secrecy from the parliament."
The recently signed interim constitution has stated that newly appointed constitutional heads will have to take the oath of office from the interim parliament. It has also mentioned that those failing to do so automatically be relieved from their positions.
Earlier, Justices protested the proclamation of the parliament, which had the provision that the justices would have to duly take oath of office and secrecy in the parliament.
"We had opposed the idea of taking oath of office as per the regulations of the House. However, the Justices will take oath under the Interim Constitution," Poudel added.
The Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990 would be nullified after the promulgation of this interim constitution. nepalnews.com pb Dec 19 06
